lighting-portrait-home-studio

Earlier this year we introduced a new series of videos based on professional lighting in the home studio.

Many photographers find that renting retail or commercial space is just not realistic and run their business from their home. The trouble they run into is limited space.

So we dedicated this video series to those photographers trying to produce pro-level results while shooting from their homes.

The Dark Angel boudoir shoot.

dark-angel-boudoir-sessionEvery fall we offer this special session as we approach Halloween. We bought a set of full size black Angel Wings and a few accessories and offer this alone with our regular boudoir sessions.

In this video, you'll see how we light this unique set and produce some special shoots our competition doesn't offer.

This session includes about a 45 minute video and sample images from the actual shoot.

High Key Portrait photography

High Key family and personal portraits are a perennial favorite.

The best part is, they're easy to do. All you need is to keep the background bright and evenly lit.

In this video, you'll see how we can use a grey wall to produce a few different looks from natural grey to full white.

This session includes about a 45 minute video and sample images from the actual shoot.

5 Awesome Portraits with just one light.

five-studio-portraits-one-light Don't own a lot of gear? No problem. In this section we'll looks at producing 5 awesome portraits using just one light and a few accessories.

Most of us have to build our gear a bit at a time. We can't buy everything we want without winning a lottery first.

So getting the most variety from the least amount of equipment is how we survive.

This session includes about a 45 minute video and sample images from the actual shoot.

photographic-lighting-home-studioSenior photography has always been a great business segment. Many photographers and clients love the outdoors for a background to shoot with, but sometimes the weather is just not working for us.

So why not shoot in the studio? There's a lot of advantages to shooting indoors that aren't obvious. When you shoot outdoors, every other photographer in town can shoot at the very same place and produce the same results.

When you shoot in the studio you can create sets that are unique to you. Things that your competition can't duplicate giving you a difference you can sell with.

This session includes about a 45 minute video and sample images from the actual shoot.

The Basics of Portrait lighting

lighting-portrait-home-studio

With today's automated cameras many photographers just shoot away and hope the camera makes it good. After all isn't why they bought a professional camera?

But the thing is, it often works It's hit and miss, but they usually get adequate work.

But here's the deal. If you truly understand the basics of portrait lighting, you can dramatically improve your end results while letting your creativity run free.

In this session, we'll see the basics we need to know to make our work top notch.

This session includes about a 45 minute video and sample images from the actual shoot.

Dramatic Boudoir Lighting

I see a lot of boudoir work that is all pretty much the same. The client is on a white bed in a variety of outfits and and the lighting is pretty even and flat. Don't get me wrong. I'm not knocking at all. In fact I do it myself.

But what's really cool is when we can offer a change-up that our competition is not doing.

Dramatic boudoir lighting is not that hard to do. Usually just two strips lights will do the trick.

In this session, we'll see how we set this up, and execute in in a small space.

This session includes about a 45 minute video and sample images from the actual shoot.

Beauty and Glamour Photography

What exactly is Beauty and Glamour Photography and how can we profit from it while providing a valuable product from those who need it.?

Most towns and cities have a group of people who want to get into the modeling business and are constantly in need of quality photography.

The problem is, unless they're in a major center they probably don't have access to photographers that can get them quality shoots that gets their foot in the agencies door.

In this session, we'll look how we can provide a valuable product, and make money along the way. It all starts out with research - finding out what they actually need.

This session includes about a 45 minute video and sample images from the actual shoot.

Low Key Lighting

low-key-portrait-photography

One of the real advantages of studio photography is the ability to do easy low key portraits. The reason is simple. It's just too hard to do in available light or outdoors.

So in the interest of distancing our business from all the others, we'll offer some "Low Key Portrait Specials" from time to time during the year. It's a look that will separate you from the competition.

Remember, low key photography is generally defined as all or most tonal values below 18% neutral grey. High Key photography is the opposite of course, with tonal values mostly above 18% neutral grey.

So imagine a subject in dark or black clothing, against a black or very dark background, with dark hair. We have to light this in a way that we can keep definition and separation in all the dark tones.
